Action Absorbs Anxiety.
3 Magic Words.
Action Absorbs Anxiety.
The next time you are stuck, instead of sitting there feeling overwhelmed, do one thing.
What is that one thing? Any action. Whether that's standing up and getting away from your desk, making a cup of tea, going outside, breathing some fresh air, walking around the block, petting a dog, or playing your favourite piece of music. In fact - do something right now, stand up throw your arms in the air, spin around and sit down again (assuming you are sitting).
Doing any kind of action can help to combat the feeling of anxiety or stuck-ness. It works for me. I encourage you to give it a try.
If you are feeling a bit overwhelmed, one of the best articles I read recently is from the folks at Reclaim, which is actually a pretty great platform for keeping track and becoming more aware of what is stealing your attention while on a computer.

This is a non-sponsored product endorsement, I have used the platform and other similar products in the past to automatically track what I do, and Reclaim has a fairly generous free tier if you want to try it out. I will feature this product and other applications I use to keep in the flow, and on track, in another post.
The concept of Action Absorbs Anxiety, was not dreamed up by me, but I have taken it on as a simple thing to do when feeling a bit sh*t. For those who want to know more, it came from a podcast I listened to featuring the very insightful Dan Harris, who amongst other things is the host of 10% Happier Podcast. Part of his philosophy is to encourage people to do meditation, so here’s a little one I found for you to try out here.
